“Parenthood is about raising and celebrating the child you have, not the child you thought you’d have. It’s about understanding your child is exactly the person they are supposed to be. And, if you’re lucky, they might be the teacher who turns you into the person you’re supposed to be.” Joan Ryan, The Water Giver
The journey of parenting can sometimes seem impossible, especially if your child doesn’t fit the definition of a “typical” child. It’s so hard to find support people who really understand what you are struggling with. I understand. I have lived this journey, and I have studied and practiced extensively to develop my expertise in guiding families of adopted, special needs and gender diverse children, as well as guiding parents who wish to improve their parentings skills. I provide supervised visitation, parent coaching, as well as family and child therapy.
Families come in all kinds of different shapes and sizes, including foster families, biological families, adoptive families, families with 2 moms or 2 dads, single parent families, families with step children or shared custody, kinship or relative families, families formed by circumstance, families with trans* parents, families with 3 or more parents, and even more. I am happy to work with any shape and size of family, as long as they want to improve their parenting.
